In November, 2000, we moved from Ossining, New York, to Ojai, California. Having sold our Ossining home and sent our belongings by truck to California, we spent a month visiting friends and relatives and taking care of the last-minute tasks associated with making a total change in one's lifestyle. Then we started...

We drove cross-country on a route that took us through the center of the country. We stopped in St. Louis where we ate lunch on the Mississippi River - on one of the riverboats (gambling casinos) that are moored there.

As we drove across America's great plains, hundreds of miles of rolling farmland slowly climbing in altitude towards the Rocky Mountains, nature provided us with some magnificent sky-shows...

We stopped for a rest and a visit with Jon's brother, Howie, when we reached Denver, Colorado. While there we visited the Butterfly Pavillion where butterflies are hatched and live out their lives flying freely inside a building. When you walk inside you enter a tropical rainforest... butterfly Butterflies land and climb on you

Continuing westward we drove on I-70 into and through the Rocky Mountains...

On the western side of the Rockies we drove out into Utah. Utah is a state full of sandstone figures that shine with a variety of colors. Everywhere we looked there were fantastic shapes sculpted by the weather and by rivers running over the land... sandstone bluffs sandstone sculptures

From Utah we began to lose altitude as we drove through Nevada (with a stop in Las Vegas for lunch). Driving across the Mojave desert we arrived in Ojai eight days after leaving the east coast. Ojai, California
